specialized enduro sl expert noisy rear shock?
      #34805 - 25/06/2009 19:15

Hi any help would be great,

I have just bought a 2nd hand spesh enduro sl 2008

I noticed out on a ride the rear shock when compressing it with weight or even just leaning over the bike and pushing it down, when it returns, it makes a heavy breathing noise and become really enoying.

Also there is a 'snapping/clicking' noise coming from near the middle crank only now and again though

any advice much appreciated

Yes mine did that.

But it was only in the firmest setting, and then only when the spike valve was triggered, I though it was normal, so never mentioned it, didn't stop it working fine, my breathing was much more noticable.

It went away when it got "Serviced" for the first time.

I take it this is doing it all the time. All these bikes have a 5 year warranty on their suspension but and it may be a relevent but, the shocks must be services by Spech or TFT appox every 250hours of riding, so appox once a year, if this is the case, try asking for a replacement/swapout, but you may need the help of the seller, I don't know if this only applies to the original buyer just like their lifetime warranty on the frames.

The only snapping/clicking noise I hear on mine is my knees, it could be a multitude of drive/frame/bearings things, but don't worry about that too much.

It's a great bike, enjoy it, does it have the original wheel rims, chocolate brown, 420sl's, they have the consistancy of well, melting chocolate, if it still has these the original rider has not been too hard on it.

PS if you want to sell it I could use the spares. Medium is my size.

Clicking could be loads of things
Start with
Seat post, tight and greased.
Pedals, anti siezed and tight.
Bearings on seat and chain stay and main pivot etc etc in good order. Take the shock off and see if there's any noise when you move it up and down by hand, also check for lateral play.
Bottom bracket OK, drop the chain off and give cranks a spin and check for lateral play.

That should be enough for now

"how much you offering?"

Not much just spent quite a bit on mine this week, new rear hub, bearings for front hub, Bottom bracket, and middle chainring, so goes like new again.

If it is like new, then lucky you, hope you got a good bargin there, just enjoy it.

Q - They seem to have changed the design slightly for the middle chain ring thought it might be a good idea to order the new steel and plastic one (2009 XT), as it is supposto be a direct replacement and last longer, nothing that some filing didn't cure though.
