Hope Hub slight grind
      #34698 - 23/06/2009 22:52

My rear wheel hub, Hope pro 2 or 3 (I think) is making a very slight but definitely there 'grinding' sound. I have a long 100 mile ride on Saturday...should I live with it or go to the LBS and get the bearings replaced / serviced? I think they can put a new cartridge sealed bearing in...is this correct? Do all LBSs deal with these hubs?

It'd help if the bike shop had the Hope tooling but most ought to be able to sort you out.
Leaving it a bit late for Sunday though, I'd try dropping the freehub body first then seeing yourself if the bearings are grity or is it's in the f/hub that way you'll know for sure and also save the cost of them doing the donkey work.

Don't you have to get the matching anodizing on your tool kit for the colour of hub you are working on... Else it won't work proper like.

And here's me getting a Pro2 hub (Black) fitted to mine.

Noisy beggers, at least they will hear me coming.

dude, the hubs are so sweet it's untrue, had a cheapo tide me over rear wheel until about a month ago... I noticed the difference immidiately... Not just better roll. The noise it also great not only in that rearassuringly well engineered way but, I've not had any near miss with and pedestrians when out on the trail sinceive had it... It great you come zooming round a corner to find people stood to the sides of the trail, instead of having to break really hard whilst trying to calmy shout a polite excuse me.

Hope you have the plain black tools, the red hub had 36 not 32 holes, I was slightly dissappointed, would have looked nice though.

And what a racket, whith my knees and screaching brakes, I'll never be able to surprise anybody on the trails again.

All rebuilt and sweet again and only £20, worth it for another year of noise and mayhem! A couple of little springy things had gone and a bearing...

Great stuff

ahhh those pesky springy things... they can be a right pain as we all know.

Still nice to see that a hub service only cost you 20 notes.
