Bike bivvying?
      #34345 - 20/06/2009 10:08

Anyone done it? Anyone fancy doing it?

I've done loads of camping, wild camping and bivvying but for some reason never done any of it on my bike before. I'm thinking it could be a great thing to "master" over the summer and then when the nights start getting darker it'll be an excellent way of getting a night ride in, bivvy out and an early start on the next days riding...

Hit the road on a friday after work when it's dark, ride into the middle of nowhere, bivvy, then have the whole of saturday to ride. That way it's only 1 day away from the families etc but 2 "days" riding and a shedload of adventure...

Plus I get to make a kit-list, and I feckin love making kit-lists!

(SLB wanders off to look at titanium hipflasks... )

Yep I'm up for that!!!

Oh and how sexy is that Ti Hip flask, want one now!!

So far I've got the Vaude Bivvy http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/tents/vaude-bivi-tent/SEASTBAE1559740 Lighter than a light thing that's lost weight!
A steel hip flask, I know it ain't Ti but it was a Chrissy pressie
3 Season sleepy bag, mat, stove, kettle and a feck off great extension lead for my Ipod docking station.

What else do we need??

Realistically the essentials for an individual would be

Lightweight sleeping bag
Decent bivvy bag - army ones are good cos they're huge, cheap and work.
Thermarest thing 3/4 or cut down roll-mat
Dry kit for sleeping in
hat/gloves
headtorch
Tarp/bungees
Food
Hipflasks with choice of warming beverage...
Waterproofs
Warm jkt

Then you could share everything else out - 1 stove between 2, 1 first aid kit for the group etc etc. To save weight even more then you could trim down the bike tools etc so there's one pump, one shock pump etc in the group so you don't have 6 people all carrying their own...
