Hi, ive read in this months mbr that when your dowsing your bike in mucoff you must keep the stuff off your discs and pads.
I always smother everything with the stuff, but ive recently had some problems with my brakes, could this be the problem, if so recommend me some new pads for my new hope minis.
Cheers Ian

Gotta admit I do the same and have never suffered any problems. Muc off is a detergent so it will display some lubricating properties but as long as it's not carrying contaminated oil or water onto the pads you should be OK as it shouldn't penetrate the pads itself and it'll just get washed off when you sluice everything away.

...or just a quick wipe down with IPA.
It does say that muc off is designed to not harm discs/pads you just make sure that you rinse it off them, i'm sure you'll be fine. The only worry I'd have is that it take all the deris that collects on the pad that gives you your stopping power.

I think you are referring to Muc-Off's 'Bike Spray' (black aerosol tin) that stuff specifically says not to use it on braking surfaces/pads.

the normal muck off wash states "safe on disk brakes and brake pads" on the side. i'd assume it'll be fine.

Ah good point, well made!
I'd forgotten that they do an oily spray called bike spray, very much like WD40/GT85 etc, don't go anywhere near you're brakes with that and if you already have it's probably game over for the pads. The pink cleaning stuff in the trigger bottle was what I was talking about.
And Tango's right, the only place to keep IPA is in your tummy!!

You could always buy Hope sh1t shifer http://www.hopegb.com/voir_SH1T12.html at least it's the same make as the brakes and IMO is really good!! don't have to use loads and it lathers up really nice As for pads have a look at http://superstar.tibolts.co.uk/index.php?cPath=21&osCsid=0651fa718d04d591b9afbc1e60396c4d don't bother with the standard (organic)ones though the backings have a tendency to disintergrate when the weathers bad.I'm running the sintered ones on XT and they're ggggreat or http://www.discobrakes.com/?s=0&t=0& I've not used these but I'm sure others out there will have. And if all else fails get some of this in ya http://tastybooze.com/2009/06/friday-beer-review-dogfish-head-60-minute-ipa/

Ouch!
Flowers IPA gave me the worst hangover I've ever experienced, and I've had a few! It felt like my head was fill of broken glass being moved around by angry hornets who had salt on their feet and where jumoping up and down on my raw nerve endings, death would have been a blessed release
Give me Deuchars any day

I've just bought some Fenwicks FS-1, it's a degreaser which comes in the same size bottle as Muc-Off and is £10, it's very good. You can also dilute it by 1:10 and use it as a bike cleaner (like Muc-Off etc). Bargain.
If you want a cheaper version of IPA, Halfords sell an aerosol called "Electical Contact Cleaner" which is pretty much the same, but at half the price of IPA. I think it's about £3.50.
