Hey green, the one that won't read disks will be fixed one of two ways.. use clean disks and clean the lens of the reader in the PS3... or replacement of the cd drive unit within.
Now I've not touched a PS3 but i've done a bit of work chipping and replacing drives on PSX and Wiis in the past, neither of which is all that tough. you basically have expensive mechano on your hands, you could probably find a photo case book for it I'd think. Use... wait for it... IPA to cleen the lens with a lint free cloth. You could even nick the drive from the other to give one working PS3.
The other one could be pretty tough... the standby button is either going to be the switch that needs replacing (sheap as chips) or something ont eh board will have gone. Not sure about no picture, is it possible to put them a mode where the output will not be compatible with your TV, hence no picture?
Anyway what's the deal with two PS3 in one house... when I was a nipper we had to share my SNES between everyone in my house!!

ok guys, 1st of all i have 2 ps3's cos its worth the extra money to save the head ache of them fighting over it.
2nd they used to have x-boxes but the old 'ring of death' put them off although it has to b said that microsoft were fantastic its just a shame that it happenes in the 1st place.
3rd they do get out the house a lot but to be honest i like them in the house where i know there safe. i know over protective parents.

i think games consoles are great i've always played them, i used to spend far too much time playing online computer games like runescape and world of warcraft but xbox's are a great little way to pass some time
