Do you mean Follow the Dog trail at Cannock (riding from birches valley car park where you have to pay?) or do you mean the Red run at Stile cop (where you don't pay cause there isn't really a car park and you just park in the layby or on small 20 car car park?)
If you trail ride then there is Hanchurch woods which is good fun to ride, it is all singletrack BUT not way marked at all BUT just pretty much just follow the trails that are worn away and you can't go wrong, There was a race there today (BETD Goldtec) or if you ride DH/FR there are also trails there for that!
It is very close to J15 of M6, come off at J15 and at 1st roundabout take a right head up the hill to the traffic lights stay in left lane and go straight through, follow road pass under M6 head up bank and at the top of the bank there is a right turn with an old house opposite (with scaffolding on it) make a right here and follow road up until you come to a twisty bit (approx 1 mile) after this there is a wood sellers/cutters house on the right and an entrance to a forestry car park on the left, park on here and head back out towards the house, turn right at the house and then immediately left into the woods (as if you are going to go back down the road you just driven up) the XC trail starts on the left just after the first 20 yards, the DH/FR trails are further down the trail (about 60 yards) and branch off the the right down two deep earth moving digger tyre tracks.
XC about 1-2 hours, DH as long as you can stay out to play for!
Hope this helps? (and if so, enjoy)

My girlfriend and I yesterday followed the Macc Forest route published in last year's MBR routes magazine.
If you like rough, rocky, relentless downhills it is well worth the sometimes interminable uphill bits. I'd say it was rideable in all weathers, but yesterday's (mainly) dry, but not too hot conditions were ideal.
Perfectly doable on a hardtail (we both ride them), but probably less tiring on a full suss as lots of it is VERY boneshakingly rocky. Best of all, we only saw two other bikers all route, so need to worry about getting elbowed out of the way.
