you do get some grumpy buggers!

Depends on what the trails are listed as by the land owner...

Footpaths - you are in the wrong
Bridleways etc - your fine!

I'm both a dog walker and cyclist so can appreciate both sides, Best to approach slow and wide so you don't scare the dogs (mainly for your safety!).

Chalk it up as grumpy owners!

The thing is walkers can choose bridleway or footpath we can't, so imo if they choose bridleway they should be more aware of bikers etc on the trails never mind tutting or grumpy comments. The worst case i've had of this was in the lakes.

true...

But everyone has an equal right to use bridleways, I feel its better if everyone just learns to get along and treat each other with equal respect!

I wouldn't discriminate a cyclist on a footpath or a bridleway if I was walking my dog, because I really don't care!

Basically I just think the world should be a friendlier place!

Forget dog walker's, i came round a corner flat out on a bridlepath and nearly hit a horse, the look the rider gave me, some people have no sense of humour!

what about bike trails? are people allowed to walk on them? they have no pedestrian signs on them but people ignore them are they breaking the law or just being arseholes?

Dont start me off on that one!!! I've got a Sustrans cycle route near to me and you cant get on it and ride any distance without being confronted by walkers and/or dog owners!!!

And as for dodging the dog logs, thats another matter alltogether.

Dont get me wrong here, Im in the same camp as Ben, cos I'm a dog walker and a cyclist so see both points of veiw.

And I allways clean up my dogs logs!!!

I also agree with the getting along bit but unfortunately not everyone shares that view. As for Dog turds i've had dogs all my life and cannot stand people who just leave it for others to walk/ride through...

I completely agree with the dog log issue....

I always clean up what's done on or near the paths! some people round here let their dogs crap on peoples lawns. I've had to plant a hedge to stop people letting their dogs run on to my front lawn and take a dump! Although I do think the council should provide more bins along footpaths, round here there are only 2 bins opposite each other on the main road (not really where people walk dogs!). Where are the bins near the playing fields?

How about the cyclist I came across up whinlatter last week who had two damn dogs with him on the trail, nearly wiped out three of us... you would think a fellow cyclist of all people would see the sheer stupidity of taking two loose labradors onto the blue route.. Whiskey Anchor !!

I live on the edge of woods in buckinghamshire that is very popular with both dog walkers and bikers. I have found all the riders to be very friendly and have a good laugh as I own two labradors that are still young and love everyone. Always do my best to get them away mind but one of mine listens to me as much as he would a horse! But some of the dog walkers are a joke! They see it as everything around them should be only for the dogs and walkers I've seen some shouting at riders when the poor guys are no where near!

For anyone who ever goes to Woburn Sands/asply woods in buckinghamshire and you see two brown labs running towards you... Dont worry they dont bite, only lick until I can get there to pull the buggers away! :P

if you read the law on the use of footpaths, it actually says that bikes are not allowed on footpaths, but if they are in a footpath they are not commiting an offence as long as they are not causing a nuisance. This dependent on whether or not the land owner has a separate bylaw on that piece of land. Im not suggesting riding on footpaths, but if you do get tutted at, maybe knowing that could help your defence.

We came across 4 horse riders as we descended Breasty Haw in Grizedale. We all slammed on the anchors and as we stopped one woman said in a reeeallly posh voice."Do you realise this is a facking bridleway"?
We were all a bit stunned so said nowt and just carried on when the horses had passed.Obviously she didn't realise that bikes aswell as horses are allowed on bridleways

I had a stop this morning for a dog, but it was a good one. Nice 4 month old puppy wanted to say 'Hello!' Hopefully, if we respect dogs when they are young and give them time, then they will not become a menace when they are older.

I love dogs! I just don't like the irresponsible owners and what they don't pick up!

There are loads of tortoises around here! Unfriendly bu99ers..
They hiss at you when you ride by...

Should be taught to give a friendly nod.

Inconsiderate too... strolling across dirt tracks in the middle of nowhere and with no warning.

They should be made to carry a cd player playing loud music, or have a 1m flag stuck on their shells!!

At least you can bunnyhop a tortoise...

There are a few deer, but they run away...

As for horses... shouldnt the riders be made to clear up their poo too???
Wouldnt fancy bunny hopping a horse...
Especially one being ridden....

What can we do about the motocross dummies....
At least we can hear them coming and take a big enough breath to survive the dust cloud!

Havent met a bear yet
