Train
I did it last year with very little training, nearly killed me! lol. Don't stop for large lunches either, made that mistake last time, stopped for a pub lunch and a pint...the afternoon was difficult after that.

Surely you should be finishing in Sunderland?

I'm on my 3rd c2c this year.
Lessons learned from the past 2 years?
The hills are bigger in reality than they are on the elevation map. Pub stops are in no way a good idea. Gel sachets do sweet fook-all. A 1.5l camelbak is WAY too small. Camping barns are worse than sleeping in a ditch. Barry's snoring can (literally) wake the dead. Watching people fall asleep into their pie and peas is one of the funniest things imaginable. The menu at the Allenheads Inn will only ever consist of "pie, peas, or pie and peas". Campsites that tell 12 of you it'll be ok to"just turn up" on a bank holiday are liars. A Renault Clio can carry a lot of kit, but at the expense of it's wheel-bearings. Walking up hills with Mad Dave is great fun. Walking up hills in spd shoes sucks. A cup of tea and some cake at the Hartside cafe WILL be the best you've ever tasted. People tend to walk out in front of you when you are doing 40mph plus down Whinlatter. Rob_A has a really hilarious pi55ed-off face. Oh, and a 35lb huck-bike with 7" coil suspension f&r rolling on 2.5" dh rubber is A F**KING STUPID bike to do it on.
It's so much fun though... The two worst bits are the climb onto Whinlatter and the bottom half of Crawleyside bank. There are some fantastic descents on the route though.

The 2 day C2C ride is this weekend, and my good friend has just told me that the Hartside climb is going to be at the end of day 1 now instead of the start of day 2.
Who need's enemy's with friend's like mine.

If you fancy a pint while you are passing through consett give me a shout. The c2c goes past the bottom of our street.
