MBR Big Weekend
      #2901 - 11/06/2008 15:59

Good work all who entered the Big Weekend this year at Margam Park, looking forward to next year already!

Organiser Martyn Salt asked me to pass on his thanks to Trek and British Cycling for helping the day run smoothly. Event pics can be views at www.joolzedymond.com.

"We picked up many 100s of gel packets though...why do people do that...discuss!" he added.

I never leave anything on the trail while out riding! only goes to giving our sport a bad name, stick it in ya pocket then dump it on the floor in the car for months on end

Recently found a secret downhill/ freeride course built by local youths on one of my Local trails (Hanchurch Woods, Staffs) bloody brilliant BUT down at the end, on the last Gap that they had obviously been sessioning it for a while! and they had left empty Milk cartons and plastic bags with snack rappers etc in! the course is on dodgy ground anyway with it not being a legit built trail BUT then to leave it in a state is only gonna give the authorities more reason to destroy all the hard work that they have put into building it!

Clean it up and take it home!

here here, as you will all know i ride with my son.
on our first outing he had a bar and dropped the wrapper on the floor, oh dear! i looked at him and tutted "take a look around you son, look at all the natural colours, greens browns yellows and oh an ugly bright red wrapper.put it in your pocket and bin it when you get home, its that easy."
he has never dropped a thing since.
he is the lazyest boy ever a lot like kevin off harry enfield so if he can do anyone can.

It is a quick blast on an low to average technical trail with its fair share of roots, I don't think the main trail around the forest is illegal (although I'm not 100%) But I doubt that the Downhill bit will be there forever as I'm sure the Forestry or whoever owns it? will want a course with Jumps/ Gaps etc on there land without permission and some control.

In periods of long wet spells small sections of the trail can become very boggy and have to be carried over but the rest is not too bad as they are set on fairly well drained ground.

Is it worth a visit? Its no trail centre and probably be a let down without some local knowledge ( its hard to navigate and you could end up going around in circles ) BUT if you have a few hours you could take the bike up there and just have a play and see what you can find.

Hope this helps mate?

Hi Graham,

Why don't we organise something ourselves, granted it won't be as sexy as MBR doing it but at least we can make it happen.

1. Decide trail centre
2. Decide dates
3. Decide suitable campsite

Off we go...

Ok,

So what trail centre does everyone fancy?

Mainstream with Latte's at the end of the run or slightly quieter and less developed like the Marin?
