Numb Toes
      #28418 - 01/05/2009 09:47

hello

does anyone else suffer from numb toes after a ride?
I wear SPDs and the shoes are big enough and not too tight but after about ten miles I find my toes start to go numb. Can anyone explain why this happens or how I can prevent it from happening in the future.

thanks

Mike

I get something similar, it blatantly for me is caused by the tips of my toes pushing the outside of my shoe. Mainly during seated climbs... as I'm not moving around that much.

Do you mean they are numb because it is cold or something else?
If it because it is cold then it is probably your shoes letting the wind in which always makes your feet cold. If this is the problem then I would consider buying a pair of waterproof socks, this should stop the numbness. You could always just try wearing another par normal of socks.
Hope his helps

hi mobile, inside your spd shoes your toes will not naturaly move so the blood will not flow as well, try moving your toes around every so often to get the blood flowing through them.

you should find this helps.

I get this cycling walking and running, iv eased it a bit by losening the shoeim wearing at the time. I also get numbness in fingers and hands, again eased this by lowering my seat.

I think the problem may be the position of your cleats on your shoes. I had the same issue and it was due to the cleats pressing onto a nerve which runs along the underside of your foot. I moved mine backwards and no more pins and needles or numbness.
