In Snowdonia next weekend, I've noticed how the Marin trail seems accessible from the back of Betsy Coed, the town seems like a good place to start especially if traveling with/meeting climbing club people.
Has anyone done this?

yes
its one hell of a climb up to it. Best to do it from the proper start as at the end you are rewarded with an awsome downhill which will make it all worth while

See my Website/ trails, for my description of what I thought of the Marin trail.
Just after you pass through the town there is a humped very narrow bridge on the right go over it and if my memory serves me correctly, you take a left turn before the right hand bend in the road. the Car park is a no frills affair and is a pay and display, No Cafe!!!!
I have only ridden the Marin trail in Betws Y Coed, but the Penmachno trail is very near and I am told by my mates that it is a much better trail, ride it if you can and let us know what you think? other wise enjoy the Marin trail.

thanks for the reply guys.
I need to go from Betsy, not the official carpark. Sounds feasible

Hi
>but the Penmachno trail is very near
Did it yesterday, we really liked the flow, and techical sections seem to get a more exciting as you progress through the route. I like the nr flatness of some of the singletrack sections too.
If you are confident there is some air to be had later on, trouble was I was confident but not skillful, took jumps but failed to control handlebars whilst in the air, nearly crashing with landing.
great fun - especially the switchbacks section near the end!
We gave it 8 out of 10 and thoroughly recomment a visit, you will definately have a smile on your face (if you haven't crashed)
It's 10 minutes from Betsy, and 2 hours was plenty of time.
Probably not for beginners.

Hi Midlife,
What a coincidence we did the trail on Saturday, awesome! Agree with you about the great re-entry back to the car park, it just gets better and better. Yes it could be done from Betsy but the grin on your face as you get back to the car wouldn't quite be the same.
Oh and it was just about deserted on Saturday morning, small group of blokes, couple from MK, dad and lad and us Brilliant!!
We shall return to nail those jumps!

Hey Midlife/ S_Q
Just to clear this up did you do Marin or Penmachno?
I have ridden Marin, thought it was great and as you say the jumps back down to the carpark are brill (thats if you were on about the Marin?)

Yep,
Did the Marin in 2 hours 20 mins, I set the GPS to record the track if you want it sending over for Memory Map.
Brill ride and a bit tougher than I had mentally prepared for which was interesting, that and the fact that the FC info sheets says the climbs total 450m and it was nearer 1000m! Should have had a bowl of porridge!
Definitely worth going back for and taking Typhoo as well, his Nomad should eat up the jumps.
