I take Jordans cereal bars...

The wife picks them up on the weekly shop, so there's always some in the house.
Before I leave I make sure I've had a meal before, i.e. don't skip breakfast or lunch. and I usually make myself a strong, small glass of Lemon and Lime GO drink just before I leave.I've found the GO drink helps take the edge off the warm up period. and The bars do boost my energy levels during a ride!
I just drink water throughout the ride!

don't really drink / eat anything special when I get home, just a coffee and usually a meal (but only because its usually meal time!)

To start off i'll have a can of red bull. Cereal bars for me too, normally take two or three, dependin on the length of the ride. while i'm out i drink water. milkshake when i'm back, might be a can of guiness dependin on the time of my arrival back to the house

bananas are very good at providing slow burning energy. They also have a good dose of potassium which helps stop cramp.

If I'm out for jut an hour or two i'll just take water and stop for a banana on the way round. If it's a bigger ride, then energy drink instead of water, a couple of bananas and maybe a cereal bar or two. Longer still I'll take some sandwiches and a kabanos or two, the protien will help stop muscule degradation.

I always have a large bowl of museli with a high fruit and nut content for brekkie, that with half milk and half live yoghurt to help digest it faster. The museli is a great body kick start with a lot of slow burning energy. The energy drink is just used to top that up.
When I get in I usually have something like a bacon and egg buttie, couple of pints of water/squash, and a slightly uncomfortable soak in the bath (it's not made for someone of my size!)

As well as energy bars for the odd nibble, I will usually drink SIS Go during the ride.

I will also munch Jelly Babies during the ride. Good source of quick sugar.

At the end of the ride, Beer and crisps.

now at 15 st 7 lbs i am not your average Gee Atherton ( Sorry Gee shouldn't have put me and you in the same catagory let alone sentence )

but beer and crisps post ride might be something that i do it ain't good advice !!! unless a tango orange physique is your goal

a good post ride drink is milk, either directly from the cow ( if you can find one and it is a bit warm ) or the local spar shop

cheap as chips and a great way of getting some goodness inside you

having said that a cold chicken and mushroom ginsters slice and a bottle of wychwood witchcraft is fantastic ( burp! )

just bought myself a 12 sachet box of the high five 4:1 in summer fruits flavour, states it increases endurance by 57% over drinking just water, if thats the case then i should feeeeeeel pretty immense when out!!!

and bought a 6 pack of the sis go gels too, for some instant energy!

whether or not ill notice a difference i dont know, im hopeful as i know my stamina is still dropping off after over an hours riding, and its not really as such my legs, i just feel empty and energy-less!

will give it a shot tonight!

I think the 4:1 is the one that i am using curently when i go out for a good while... definately does teh job. I fi'm goign for more than 20K i'll certainly fill my bladder with it.. on the occasions that I've run out I've crashed pretty soon (30mins) after running out.. i'mguessing part of this is due to lack of fluids, not just energy.

Timing of nutrition is also critical. Don't wait until you are running low on energy before hitting the isotonic/gel/jelly babies/whatever. It is too late then. Start drinking early, small sips and often. Start fueling after say 10km - have a gel, then top up with small amounts frequently - small amounts as your blood flow to stomach is reduced - your legs need it instead.
